Bloomsburg Track and Field Competes at Orange and Maroon Classic

SUSQUEHANNA - The Bloomsburg University men's and women's indoor track and field team competed in the Orange and Maroon Classic at Susquehanna University on Saturday morning.

In men's action, Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) advanced to the 55-meter finals where he placed fifth in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying time of 6.68. McGhee also took fifth place out of 44 runners in the 200-meter event in a time of 23.57, missing the PSAC qualifying time by only a half of a second.

In the men's mile run, Jim Stokley (Elverson/Twin Valley) ran an impressive race, finishing fifth out of a field of 37 in 4:37.63 while in the 800-meter event, freshman Dan Tallerico (Pittsburgh/North Hills) placed third with a time of 2:04.37.

The Huskies had three top-five finishers in the 5,000-meter event. Dave Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) placed third in 15:50.62, Tim Marcoe (Landsdale/Landsdale Catholic) came in fourth place in 15:59.03 and Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) took fifth in a time of 16:00.65. Sanford and Marcoe's times also qualified them for the PSAC championships.

On the women's side, freshman Bethany Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) placed second in the mile run in 5:37.60, only two seconds behind the winner. In the same race, Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Central Catholic) took fifth in a time of 5:42.80.

In the 800-meter event, Christa Johnson (Nescopeck/Berwick) placed fourth out of a field of 22 in a time of 2:32.82. Laura Duceman (Mt. Carmel/Mt. Carmel) placed sixth in the same event in a time of 5:42.80.

In the women's 5,000-meter event, Bloomsburg placed four runners in the top ten. Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) took second in a conference qualifying time of 18:48 while Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) placed third in a time of 18:49. Also in the race, Karen Hause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) came in fifth in 19:31 while Shannon Hoffman (Watstontown/Warrior Run) placed sixth in 19:38.

The women's distance medley relay team of Cortney Sandore (Pine City, NY/Elmira Southside), Duceman, Johnson and Toni Zangari (Sunbury, Shikellamy) placed second out of nine teams in a time of 13:48. In the long jump, Connie Raineri (Gilbertville/Saint Pius X) placed second with a conference-qualifying jump of 16'3".

The Huskies will compete at Bucknell University next Friday and Saturday.
